Ceramic tile ideal uses

Ceramic tiles are versatile, and because they come with a glazed surface you are able to install them in pretty much any space you like.

Kitchens

The most popular place to use a ceramic tile in our experience would definitely be the kitchen, where many people like the look of using multiple coloured tiles to create a nice interesting pattern. Ceramic tiles are extremely popular as a wall tile, where they can be arranged in a random pattern or be used to make a stylish pattern to provide colour and contrast with your kitchen units. Many people will also choose a hard wearing ceramic floor tile for their entire ground floor level, continuing the same tile from the front of the house (living room and hall) all the way through to the back (kitchen and conservatory). It is extremely effective looking and really creates a look of elegance and space.

Bathrooms

You'll also find ceramics a great option for your bathroom or en suite. Ceramic tiles are perfectly suited to these moist environments because the glaze waterproofs the tile, hence stopping any leaks through the surface and into the building structure. Again, many people like to tile the whole bathroom with the same tile to create a wet room that is totally watertight. This style can look quite bland if it is not given some colour and contrast. To break it up, why install a mosaic tile in a band around the wall? This breaks up the repetitiveness of the same tile covering the whole wall and brings n colour. We've installed single rows of mosaics and double rows (top and bottom) of mosaics to great effect. It certainly is worth considering, even if it does cost extra to buy the mosaics and have them installed.

In terms of usage, the bottom line is basically that you have a blank slate and there really is no limit to what can be achieved with ceramic tiles. For design ideas we recommend visiting the tile manufacturers, most of whom will have a gallery of images showing what can be done. Otherwise, have a look at some of the various home magazines and go through them for ideas. There's plenty to see and do!
