Porcelain tile ideal uses
Porcelain tiles are usually used in bathrooms and kitchens. Due to its resistance to moisture, it is usually placed in kitchen and laundry rooms as well. Bathroom floors are always subjected to water and humidity, and the tiles used for such areas should be able to withstand such conditions. Porcelain tiles are also good for bathroom walls because of the many attractive finishes available and their moisture-resistant properties. Sinks and countertopsCertain decorative porcelain tiles are manufactured for special purposes, such as for inside sinks and along kitchen countertops. You can find many varying and appealing designs and illustrations on the tiles. Different designs are available for artistic purposes. This is especially good if you are achieving a certain effect in a particular room. OutdoorsSeveral porcelain tiles are also resistant to frost; meaning they can also be used outdoors on patios and around barbecue installations for example. Porcelains are hard and can withstand heavy footfall as well as the forces of nature. Moreover, tile breakage should not be a concern unless they are going to be installed before the cessation of any building work in the area. It is advisable though to use unglazed porcelain tiles outdoors to prevent slipping accidents due to the smooth finish of glazed types. Any slight moisture buildup on the tile surface, such as after a shower or when watering the garden, can easily lead to a nasty fall. Outdoor swimming poolsPorcelain tiles are ideal for use in outdoor (and indoor) swimming pools. The glazed variety is what's usually used here as it gives the pool a striking look while the impermeable surface prevents leakage. The color of the tiles could add up to the fresh green or blue ambience of the swimming pool water, they can even add to the sparkle on the pool. And under the same principle, porcelains are preferred on jacuzzis, spas and similar purposes. Benefits & drawbacks « « Ideal uses » » Maintenance |
