Porcelain tile maintenance

Simply put, the maintenance of porcelain tiles is a breeze. Basically they require very little or no maintenance aside from your usual home cleaning routine. A simple soap and water solution would be able to remove the dirt from the tile surface, though it would be necessary to undertake several steps more than plain cleaning. All you have to do is regularly sweep or vacuum the entire floor area. If there is any dirt that is stuck on the surface, use a knife or a scouring pad. Once you have removed all the dirt from the surface you can move on to mop the floor.

Cleaning

Use regular detergent for tiles or specialized household cleaners in a solution with water. Clean the entire floor by mopping it with the solution to remove any stubborn stains and kill germs and bacteria. After which, dispose of the detergent solution and then mop the floor with clean water. Once you have removed all the detergent from the floor you can wipe it dry to prevent water spots. Refrain from using abrasive compounds on the tiles, as it may start to errode the tile's shine. (If you need to use commercial cleaners on the tiles, make sure you follow the directions that it came with properly.)

Vinegars can also be used for cleaning, and have been used for many years in place of chemical detergents. Just mix a measure of vinegar with an equal part of water and use it for scrubbing, a cheap and effective way of cleaning your tiles that also happens to be environmentally friendly.

Preventative measures

As preventive measures, you could use a good floormat to prevent dirt and grit from entering the building and scoring the tiles. Try applying some tile sealant over the porcelain to prevent dirt from sticking to the tiles themselves. Be careful not to use just any tile finish like varnish or wax as these may dull the tile instead, leaving a smear on the surface. (You also may damage the tile permanently, therefore requiring a higher level of maintenance.

To surmise, the only maintenance needed for porcelain tiles are ordinary sweeping. Porcelain tiles are generally long lasting and when coupled with these maintenance measures, you are sure to preserve the porcelain's lasting splendor.
