Porcelain tilesPorcelain tiles are high quality ceramic tiles. Its main is component is extremely fine sand or dust particles pressed together. It's also composed of several minerals such as silica, amorphous phase, quartz, and mullite. The exact composition of these minerals varies from one to the other and is proportional to the mass percentage. Minute amounts of corundum or zircon can also be found. To produce porcelain tiles is made by subjecting the sand on high temperature and pressure, higher than that of a regular ceramic tile. This makes porcelain tiles a somewhat denser than its counterpart. Porcelain is considered as stoneware due to its composition. It usually is on its natural color that's why even if it's chipped, it's not distinguishable. The color is natural all through out. But recently, manufacturers have come up with colored porcelain tiles, in contrast to its regular creamy color. They have added coloring agents or glazes on top of the tile. Of course, if these type of tiles chip, it will be noticeable for sure. Porcelain tiles are mostly confused with ceramic. Both have more or less the same quality and elements, though porcelain exceeds ceramics on density, smoothness, and durability. As to price comparison, there is really nothing in there to evaluate. There are certain special ceramic tiles that are costly enough to be priced as porcelain. There isn't much of a difference when it comes to pricing. Porcelain tiles » » Benefits & drawbacks |
