Amtico flooring benefits & drawbacks

So why would you bother going out of your way to buy Amtico rather than tiles, carpet or wooden floors? What is it that sets it apart from the rest? In my opinion the main factor in choosing Amtico is longevity.

Longevity

If you have ever installed a real wood floor then you'll know all about this. The danger of installing real wood is that it is so easily damaged and requires a lot of tender care and attention to keep it at it's peak. With Amtico it really is a case of laying the floor and enjoying it rather than worrying all the time. In my time I've seen my fair share of floors that have been ruined by scratches, dirt and warping from damp. But with an Amtico floor you can simply lay it and forget about these issues. As a matter of fact, Amtico is guaranteed to last for 20 years!

Variety

You'll be amazed at the range of styles available. People seem to have a preconceived notion that vinyl is cheap and limited in terms of it's style, but you will find that Amtico is full of decoration opportunities. From wood to slate and marble, you will be more than satisfied at the choice.

Quiet

I can remember the first time I walked into a room with an Amtico floor as clear today as back then. Why? Because it was so quiet and homely. Unlike a real wood or laminate floor, Amtico is quiet. There is no booming noise as you walk over the floor, which helps to give a room a peaceful ambience.

Drawbacks

But not everything is perfect, there are drawbacks to Amtico. (But you'll be pleased to know that there aren't many!) The main drawback, and the only one that comes to mind, is that you can only install Amtico (or any other high quality vinyl) on a perfectly level floor. This means that you have no other option but to have your floor leveled using a self leveling compound. While this does add extra cost to your installation (typically n the range of £300 - 500 depending on area) it means that the floor is absolutely level.
